Software is a set of instructions and programs, which is designed to perform a well-defined function or task. A program is a sequence of instructions written in specific manner to solve a particular problem.


There are two types of software -
  • System Software
  • Application Software

System Software

The system software is collection of programs designed to operate, control, and extend the processing capabilities of the computer itself. System software are generally prepared by computer manufactures. These software products comprise of programs written in low-level languages which interact with the hardware at a very basic level. System software serves as the interface between hardware and the end users.

Some examples of system software are: 

Operating System (Windows, Mac, Android and Linux), Compilers, Interpreter, Assemblers etc.


Features of system software are as follows:

  • Close to system
  • Fast in speed
  • Difficult to design
  • Difficult to understand
  • Less interactive
  • Smaller in size
  • Difficult to manipulate
  • Generally written in low-level language

Application Software

Application software products are designed to satisfy a particular need of a particular environment. All software applications prepared in the computer lab can come under the category of Application software.
Application software may consist of a single program, such as a Microsoft's notepad for writing and editing simple text. It may also consist of a collection of programs, often called a software package, which work together to accomplish a task, such as a spreadsheet package.

Turmeric & Its Healthy Feature

Turmeric is native of China or India. India is the largest grower of turmeric in the world 8%. 92% 0f which is consumed within the country Remaining 8% is exported which brings us 15 to 55 crores of foreign exchange annually

Botanical characters

Perennial herb. Leaves have long petioles & are produced on the underground Rhizome. Which is thick & commercially used. Inflorescence is spike. Pale yellow flowers remain covered with pink coloured bracts.

Uses of Turmeric

1. Mainly consumed as a spice for the preparation of tasty curried dishes.
2. Used to flavour & to colour butter, cheese, pickles, mustard & other food stuffs.
3.  Yields brilliant coloured dye to colour wool, silk, & cotton to impart yellow shade.
4. Turmeric is regarded by Hindu’s as sacred for use in ceremonial & religious functions. A considerable amount of turmeric is converted as Kumkum & used for Tilak.
5.  When boils with warm milk & taken internally it relieves sore throat & common cold.
6.  In small pox turmeric is used as a paste with gingelly oil & neem leaves.
7.  Turmeric is stomachic, carminative, tonic, blood purifier & an antiseptic.
8.  Used to detect boric acid.



9.  Due to anti-inflammatory & antiseptic properties it is used locally along with lime on wounds.
10. Volatile oil of rhizome is used for treatment of cervix cancer.
11. Turmeric is used in a no. of cosmetic preparations such as vanishing creams & other facial products.
12. Smearing of turmeric paste on the face & limbs during a bath is very useful to discourage unwanted hair on the feminine skin, prevention & cure for pimples & promoting the beauty of face.
